The story of a photographer

Growing up my sister battled cancer. It was the late 90s and camera phones weren’t in everyone’s pocket yet. We took pictures through her last few years of life - beach trips, camp, holidays - but I have always regretted not taking more pictures of our everyday life together. What I would give to have more photos of her, of the two of us, of our family.

Now I have my own family and there’s a chance I overcompensate for the photos I missed out on as a child. I find tremendous joy photographing the daily beauty of my children and the world around us. When I am able to capture the pure essence of someone with a still image, it’s like opening the very best present on Christmas morning.

What a privilege it is when someone invites me into their family to photograph joyous occasions or their everyday life. I view it like creating a time capsule for the family to look back on for years to come with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. In the words of Ben Rector, “We will never be this young again.”

“i want to make beautiful thinGs, even if Nobody cares.”
